China provided 4.37 billion Philippine pesos for the Chico River Pump Irrigation Project, which was inaugurated on June 25, and is expected to irrigate more than 8,000 hectares of farmland in the northern Philippine provinces of Cagayan and Kalinga.

As one of the flagship projects of the "Build, Build, Build" plan in the Philippines, this project is a key infrastructure and livelihood project promoted by the two governments, and it is also the 17th Philippine-China inter-governmental cooperation project completed under President Duterte.

Sinomach subsidiary China CAMC Engineering Co Ltd (CAMCE) signed the project with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) of the Philippines in March, 2018. It includes a new lifting pumping station, substation, supporting transmission lines, tunnels and channels on the right bank of the Chico River. The project can supply efficiently and reliably water for local farmland irrigation, thus directly increasing crop yields and the income of 4,350 farmers.

China Media Group, China's state broadcaster, spoke highly of the project for its significant contribution to the livelihood of local residents, and fully recognized and respected the efforts of the company's overseas employees.
