China-aided pump irrigation project completed

China provided 4.37 billion Philippine pesos for the Chico River Pump Irrigation Project, which was inaugurated on June 25 and is expected to irrigate more than 8,000 hectares of farmland in the northern Philippine provinces of Cagayan and Kalinga.

Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte attended the inauguration ceremony via video link and thanked the Chinese government for its support and help. He also said that this project will continue to benefit the Filipino people and improve their lives for many years to come.

As one of the flagship projects of the "Build, Build, Build" plan in the Philippines, this project is a key infrastructure and livelihood project promoted by the two governments, and it is also the 17th Philippine-China inter-governmental cooperation project completed under President Duterte.

Sinomach subsidiary China CAMC Engineering Co Ltd (CAMCE) signed the project with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) of the Philippines in March, 2018. It includes a new lifting pumping station, substation, supporting transmission lines, tunnels and channels on the right bank of the Chico River. The project will provide efficient and reliable irrigation water supply for local farmland, thus increasing crop yields and income of 4,350 farmers directly.

Guyana means "Land of Many Waters". Bordering the Atlantic Ocean in the north, it is the only English-speaking country in South America.

This June 27 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Guyana. Guyana took the lead in the English-speaking Caribbean to establish diplomatic ties with China, opening a new era of friendship between China and the Caribbean countries.

China and Guyana will take the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to deepen mutual political trust, strengthen economic and trade cooperation and enhance exchanges and mutual understanding, so as to move together toward a brighter future of common prosperity.
