CMEC to help improve urban roads in Peru

Sinomach subsidiary China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) has worked with Zhejiang First Hydro & Power Construction Group, a highly qualified contractor in hydroelectric construction, to undertake a highway upgrading project in Huancavelica, a city in Peru, which is much less developed than the rest of the country.

Peru's President Pedro Castillo attended the project's opening ceremony, saying that tens of thousands of local residents will benefit from the project.

Speaking highly of the project, Castillo noted that the bad roads in Huancavelica have greatly affected the sale of local produce, not allowing farmers to earn their living expenses for their hard work.

"I believe that with the help of our Chinese friends, we will be able to complete the project successfully and benefit local farmers and people to the greatest extent," said the president.

The 31-kilometer road renovation project, with a value of 295 million yuan ($46.34 million), will take 360 days to complete.

It is the first road project and the second national project CMEC has won in Peru after the extension and improvement works on the drinking water and sewerage system in the capital city Lima, which paved the way for the company's business development in the South American country.

Initiated in June 2019, the project included four rural roads with a total length of 247.9 kilometers. Facing the impact of COVID-19 and major changes unseen in a century, overseas construction conditions deteriorated. CAMCE managed to ensure the project's smooth progress, winning praise from the local people and a good reputation in the Zambian engineering contracting sector.

Sinomach is committed to cooperating with Zambia to improve the country's infrastructure. The project has revitalized rural traffic and promoted trade between Chibombo and surrounding areas, playing an important role in boosting local economic development.
