2026-04-27A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held for a 1,224-unit affordable housing project in Hulhumalé, Maldives, undertaken by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), a subsidiary of Sinomach. Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu attended the event, and expressed appreciation for China's support in improving local livelihoods and anticipation for enhanced cooperation on more people-centered projects.
The project includes four 18-story residential buildings with a total of 1,224 units. It has been incorporated into the Maldives' Inclusive National Affordable Housing Scheme (INAH), a key government livelihood initiative.
Located in Hulhumalé — an artificial island in the core development area of the Maldives' capital region, the project aims to help ease population pressure and housing shortages in Malé, the capital city.
Once completed, it will significantly enhance housing supply and living conditions, contributing to more balanced urban and socio-economic development of the capital region.
