Funded by the African Development Bank and the Cameroonian government, and constructed by China CAMC Engineering Co, the station is a key power source for the region, addressing the long-standing energy shortfall.
Construction of the Lom-Pangar Dam began in 2019, and by May 2023, the first unit was completed. The station now provides stable and reliable electricity, helping to bridge Cameroon's energy gap. In addition to powering the eastern region, the project also enhances dry season power generation at downstream hydropower stations by regulating the flow of the Sanaga River. As a clean, renewable energy source, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions, supports economic growth and contributes to global climate change mitigation.
Since June last year, the Lom-Pangar Hydropower Station has delivered clean, affordable power to the region, boosting local industry, improving living standards and driving economic development.
