China-built crude oil processing facility in Basra celebrated achieving 100,000-barrel production capacity

A ceremony was held at the block-9 central crude oil processing facility project in Basra, Iraq on July 26 to mark the achievement of a production capacity of 100,000 barrels.

Attending the ceremony were Iraqi Vice-Prime Minister and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani; Ji Gang, counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in Basra; officials from the Iraqi government, its oil ministry and Basra Oil Company; Liu Shengcheng, deputy general-manager of China CAMC Engineering Co; and Yang Chuanliang, deputy general-manager of China IPPR International Engineering Co.

The newly-launched facility began operating on April 27, three days ahead of target. It has been consistently reaching its daily production capacity ever since.

At the launch ceremony, Hayan spoke highly of the work done by China CAMC Engineering in the construction of the facility. He said that the Iraqi government is willing to continue cooperation with Chinese companies in the exploration of crude oil and natural gas and the further development of the Iraqi economy.

Song Yu, executive president of Iraqi United Energy Group, thanked China CAMC for its contribution to the exploration and building of block-9, hailed the company’s project management expertise and professionalism, and praised the project as a case study in bilateral cooperation.

In a meeting that followed the ceremony, Liu said that the smooth operation of block-9 has encouraged China CAMC to continue work in the crude oil and natural gas exploration field. He added that the company will continuously pool its resources and strengths towards the building of crude oil projects and the prosperity of oil and gas industries in Iraq.

Ji congratulated China CAMC for its achievements in the exploration of oil and gas in Iraq and implored the company to build on its strengths, expand its market presence and strive for greater cooperation between China and Iraq in the energy sector.
