Recently, IPPR successfully completed the investigation for the China-aided Zanzibar Abdulla Mzee Hospital Upgrade and Reconstruction and Mnazi Mmoja Hospital ICU Servicing and Reconstruction projects and signed the international design contract.
During its stay in Zanzibar, the investigation team surveyed and examined the hospitals and their surrounding environments and engaged in discussions with the concerned persons of the Chinese medical team and the Zanzibari party. The team listened carefully to the opinions of the doctors from various departments on the department settings, arrangement of functional areas, and power and water supplies for the medical building. With attentive guidance from Chief Architect (Medical) Dr. Huang Xiqiu, the design scheme that IPPR submitted adhered to the design philosophy of inheritance and showed respect for the history and continuity from the past to the future. While maintaining the regional characteristics of the original building, the design also incorporates advanced design concepts of modern hospitals. The scheme was highly commended and unanimously approved by the Zanzibari party. After the investigation team successfully completed all its tasks, the international design contract for the project was signed with the representatives of the Zanzibari government. The signing of this contract signifies a milestone achievement for this project.
The Abdulla Mzee Hospital Upgrade and Reconstruction and Mnazi Mmoja Hospital ICU Servicing and Reconstruction projects not only renew the friendship between the Chinese and African people, but also provide real benefits for the local people and development for the undeveloped medical industry in Zanzibar.
