Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Transmission and Distribution Project of Djibloho Hydropower Station in Equatorial Guinea

On June 21, 2009, a grand ground-breaking ceremony was held for the transmission and distribution project for Djibloho Hydropower Station, at the construction site of the NKUE 220kV substation in Equatorial Guinea. This is another project undertaken by China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH) as the general contractor. Equatorial Guinea’s President Obiang and important political figures, diplomatic corps of various countries in Equatorial Guinea, the construction companies, major news media, together with the political counselor Ms.Zhang Tao from the Chinese Embassey were present at the ceremony.
President Obiang stated in his speech that the transmission and distribution project for the Djibloho Hydropower Station is an unprecedented large-scale power project ever constructed across the whole mainland of Equatorial Guinea. The completion of the project will help fundamentally improve the wellbeing of the local people and help sustain the long-term development of the nation. He also called for the generous understanding and strong support from the general republic towards the construction of the project. In the end, President Obiang expressed his best wishes to the smooth progress of the project.
With a total investment of 647 Million USD, this is a major project under the framework of governmental cooperation between China and Equatorial Guinea. SINOMACH will serve as the general contractor of this project, while one of its subsidiaries, China National Machinery and Equipment Import & Export Corporation (CMEC), will be responsible for the physical implementation of the project. The project covers a total of 1,366 km transmission lines, 5200 kV substations, 13110 kV substations and 820 kV substations, to distribute power to 25 cities in mainland regions of Equatorial Guinea. Once completed, this project will help solve the power supply shortage for both household and industrial usages.
