CMEC Signed the Largest Construction Contract in Sri Lanka

      On June 29, 2009,the contract on the Project Phase II of Puttalam Coal Fired Power Station was signed by China National Machinery and Equipment Import & Export Corporation (CMEC) and Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Electric Board (CEB) in Sri Lanka’s presidential palace. This is the largest project ever signed between China and Sri Lanka and the largest construction project in Sri Lanka since the founding of the nation. Sri Lanka President Rajapaksa, Minister of Energy, China’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mme. Yang Xiuping, and Counselor Zhu Jinfu attended the signing ceremony.
      This 850 Million USD project includes 2300MW coal fired power generation units and auxiliary facilities, coal terminal facilities, 105km long 220 kV transmission lines and substations.
      Phase I of this project, once the largest coal fired power generation project in the history of Sri Lanka, was also undertaken by CMEC, with a total contract value over 400 Million USD. Construction of the project was started in August 2007.
