Sinomach subsidiary China National Electric Engineering Co Ltd (CNEEC) recently inked three projects in Kyrgyzstan, Thailand and Bosnia and Herzegovina, further powering the stepped-up construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.

CNEEC to upgrade Uch-Kurgan HPP

CNEEC has joined hands with a local power corporation in Kyrgyzstan to work on the transformation of the Uch-Kurgan hydropower plant (HPP), the oldest of the six HPPs installed along the Naryn River cascade in Kyrgyzstan.

Uch-Kurgan, located 271 kilometers southwest of the country’s capital Bishkek, began operating in 1962 and has been used as a base-load plant. The powerhouse contains four turbine-generator units with capacity of 45 megawatts each.

The CNEEC project will increase the capacity of the axial-flow rotor units, with an expansion of over 10 megawatts per unit. The corresponding restoration works will also be included.

The company’s participation in the Asian Development Bank-supported Uch-Kurgan HPP marked a significant breakthrough in the Kyrgyzstan’s electricity market.

CNEEC to build another waste power plant for TPIPP

CNEEC has signed an agreement with TPI Polene Power Public Company Limited (TPIPP), a big Thai company that operates power plants and petrol and gas stations, to build a 12-megawatt (MW) waste power plant in Songkhla Chana in southern Thailand.

It is the first EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) waste-to-power project of CNEEC in the Thailand electricity market, and signifies that the company made significant headway in regional development.

CNEEC attaches great importance to the Thailand market and has maintained a cooperative relationship with TPIPP for many years. The project team won the bidding for the TPIPP Songkhla 1×12MW Waste Power Plant Project after two and a half years of effort.

Previously, CNEEC had undertaken a 150MW power plant project, a 60 MW waste power project and a 30 MW waste heat power integrated plant project for TPIPP.

The Thailand project polished CNEEC’s performance in solid waste treatment and waste power generation, further secured long-term cooperation between the company and TPIPP, and helped the company open more market windows.

CNEEC was tasked with the construction of the Ugljevik III coal-fired power plant and a coal mine with an output of 4.2 million tons in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The agreement was signed between CNEEC and the Polish-Chinese Sunningwell International Ltd in a non-face-to-face manner.

The Ugljevik III lignite power plant is expected to be equipped with two 350 MW supercritical circulating fluidized bed boilers and will greatly relieve the power supply pressure in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

CNEEC is also responsible for opening a coal mine with an annual output of no less than 4.2 million tons in two mining areas adjacent to the power plant that will be a steady supply of fuel.

The company will seize the opportunity to consolidate the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina and reach for the markets of surrounding regions in a bid to inject momentum into the development of new projects in Eastern Europe.
