Sinomach affiliate Erzhong (Deyang) Heavy Equipment Co Ltd (EHEC) delivered the first nuclear main pump housing to employ Hualong One, a domestically-designed third-generation nuclear reactor, on June 25.

The pump housing will be used at the unit 1 of China National Nuclear Corp’s Zhangzhou nuclear plant phase I in East China’s Fujian province, contributing to the landmark project that is boosting the progress of China Manufacturing 2025.

The nuclear main pump, which is installed under the steam generators in the nuclear island, drives the continuous circulation flow of coolant in the reactor coolant pump system to send the heat produced by the reactor into the steam generator. It is the key to controlling water circulation in nuclear power operations.

EHEC has undertaken the research and development of six nuclear main pump housing for units 1 and 2 of the Zhangzhou project, marking a milestone in the EHEC’s transformation from a supplier of nuclear materials to a supplier of nuclear equipment and testifying that the company boasts high level extreme manufacturing capabilities.

The surfacing of the inner wall and the welding of the safety end -- two technical challenges during the production of pump housing -- of the remaining two sets of the unit 1 main pump have passed a one-time inspection. EHEC will apply the successful management and manufacturing experience of the main pump housing manufacturing process to the production of other nuclear island main equipment, playing a positive role in the development of China’s nuclear power industry.
