SINOMACH Heavy Equipment Group Co Ltd (Sinomach-HE), affiliated to Sinomach, has independently built a rotor center body for the No 5 unit of the Changlongshan pumped storage power station. The rotor hub is the most important component of the energy-storage unit that bears the largest mechanical stress, and is the first to be manufactured in China.

The Changlongshan pumped storage power station, located in Anji county, East China’s Zhejiang province, serves as the load center of the East China power grid. The station ranks in the top three pumped-storage hydropower facilities in China in terms of installed capacity. Its rated water head ranks second in the world and first in China.

The rotor part was produced via integral forging. High-standard manufacturing materials and high precision were required. The finished part is representative of the world-class extreme manufacturing of a pumped storage power station.

The part will be assembled with the upper and lower shafts previously developed by Sinomach-HE for Unit 5. At this point, the company will have successfully concluded the first component package development of the Changlongshan project, which shows the enormous potential of Sinomach-HE in terms of promoting the localization of the core technologies of national high-end equipment, and signifies that the company has gone up to a higher level in its ability to make advanced major technological equipment.

The Changlongshan project’s rotor center body is a signature product of Sinomach-HE in the pumped storage equipment market. While maximizing its manufacturing capacity, the company has designed an adjustable mandrel system, a dovetail groove template and special measuring tools, and has broken through the limitations of sleeve parts finishing.

The company has also explored the whole process of high-precision level dovetail groove finishing solutions, based on the production of Changlongshan’s rotor part, which has proven to be scientific and workable. They have applied for two invention patents.

The second package of key components for the Changlongshan project undertaken by Sinomach-HE is now in full swing, to serve the No 6 power unit.

As a flagship state-level high-end heavy equipment enterprise, Sinomach-HE has opted to combine science with industry and trade, with a focus on the research and development of major technical equipment. The company continues to make progress in large-scale and extreme manufacturing technologies, and takes on major national scientific research projects, providing a solid guarantee for major national projects and national defense construction.

In recent years, it has played a significant part in the structural adjustment of the iron and steel industry, the independent innovation of energy equipment, petrochemical and oil product upgrades and other major construction projects.

In terms of independent energy equipment innovation, Sinomach-HE has developed a series of core components for major national hydropower projects, such as the Three Gorges Project, Baihetan Hydropower Station, Xiluodu Hydropower Station, Wudongde Hydropower Station, Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station and the Gezhouba Dam, and has acted as a positive bolster for the national development of hydroelectric power generation.
