Pakistan’s Thar Integrated Coal Mine and Power Project, undertaken by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), a subsidiary of Sinomach, has made positive contributions to the construction of a high-quality Belt and Road guided by the concept of green development.

The project is CMEC’s first large cross-industry project to have its EPC progress promoted by investment, and requires its working group to have professional skills and strong risk control ability.

With the help of the local environmental protection department, the project team conducts regular third-party tests on the air, water and toxic substances in the mining area, in order to ensure all indicators meet environmental protection standards.

They also sort garbage and industrial waste and cooperate with qualified service suppliers on a long-term basis to dispose of waste oil, filter elements and other production and domestic waste in a unified way, protecting the surrounding Thar Desert from pollution hazards.

The project team and the Pakistani side jointly initiated an afforestation plan at the beginning of the project. In the past four years, they have planted over ten thousand trees, which play an important role in wind prevention and sand fixation as well as soil and water conservation.

In addition, the team laid off a zone to plant vegetables and raise poultry in the construction camp, creating a green and vibrant atmosphere in the desert.
