The 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) ministerial meeting was held at Papua New Guinea International Convention Center designed by China IPPR International Engineering Co (IPPR), a subsidiary of China National Machinery Industry Co, on Nov 15.
The convention center covers an area of 3.35 hectares and has a floorage space of 0.99 hectares; it is the first large international convention center in Papua New Guinea. Several South Pacific regional conferences have already taken place at the new facility since it opened at the end of 2015.
At the invitation of the Papua New Guinea government, the Chinese government appointed IPPR to upgrade the convention center in December 2017 to meet the needs of the 2018 APEC summit.
It took IPPR four months to complete the reconstruction. The convention center is equipped with a multifunctional hall, an international news center, canteens and art galleries, receiving recognition from local government and the organizing committee of the 2018 APEC summit.
