China National Heavy Machinery Co (CHMC), an affiliate of Sinomach, signed an EPC contract for a 500kV power project with Cambodia's state-owned Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) in the country’s capital Phnom Penh on Jan 11.

According to the agreement, CHMC is responsible for the construction of two electric transmission lines connecting the western and eastern areas of the capital city, as well as the Cambodia-Laos border and Stung Treng province.

As the first 500kV transmission lines, the project will help form a grid network between Cambodia and its neighbors, including Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

CHMC has maintained a long-term partnership with EDC. Projects built by CHMC have covered every province in the country, with total investment of more than $1 billion.

They have helped improve living standards for local residents and satisfy the power demands of emerging food processing and industrial manufacturing businesses.
