China’s top legislator, Zhang Dejiang, along with Serbian officials visited Kostolac-B power station run by China Machinery Engineering Co (CMEC), a subsidiary of China National Machinery Industry Co (Sinomach) in Serbia on July 17.

The power station has been under construction since May 2015.

Zhang said that he will help CMEC persuade the Serbian side to approve the environmental impact assessment for the Kostolac-B power station project, after learning about the project’s current status.

The Kostolac-B power station project will cost around $715.6 million and take around 58 months to build. As the project contractor, CMEC needs to build a 350MW supercritical coal-fired generator unit and enlarge open-pit coal mines.

The project is the first overseas project for both CMEC and Sinomach in Europe. It will help relieve electricity shortages once complete as Serbia has not any built new power stations for 20 years.
