The Panamax cargo ship ARGO, carrying with 65,000 tons of Ukrainian grain, arrived in Shenzhen, China recently, which signifies the imported Ukrainian new season corn of 2014 by China National Complete Engineering Corporation (CCEC) under CMEC has successfully reached the Port of Chiwan in Shenzhen. In the presence of Shekou Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and Chiwan Port staff, representatives from CCEC and relevant Chinese feed and grain trading corporations attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony upon the arrival of the ship. Representatives attending the ceremony showed recognition of the low rate of broken kernels and high unity weight of the Ukrainian new season corn imported by CCEC, and highly praised the quality of the imported non-GMO corn.

The USD 3 billion Ukrainian Agriculture Project executed by CCEC is an important link of the strategic economic and trade cooperation between China and Ukraine, of which grain trade is an important part. The steady implementation of the Agriculture Project symbolizes a solid step forward in the economic and trade cooperation between China and Ukraine. The project has withstood various tests, such as the political instability in Ukraine and changes of correspondents on both sides during the implementation. In the latest three months in particular, confronted with hardship in Ukraine and rumors in the market, both sides have acted with high professionalism and solidarity, pushing forward the implementation steadily hand in hand, striving to complete the grain trade contract that has been signed this year.

As a central enterprise, CMEC follows the strategy of Chinese enterprises “Going Global”, taking active part in the national “Building Silk Road Economic Belt (The Belt and Road)” initiative, and is committed to carry out the China’s agriculture “Going Global” strategy. Ukraine lies at the heart of Eurasia transportation system, making it a pivotal hub in “The Belt and Road” region. Ukraine is also among the first East European countries that expressed support to the development of “The Belt and Road”. Ukraine boasts abundant agricultural resources, with 70 percent of its land to be agricultural land, and renowned fertile chernozem area accounting for more than 25% of the world. As one of the biggest grain exporter in the globe, Ukraine is reputed as the “Granary for Europe”.
